Swecha

Swecha, which means freedom, is a deeply personal project within my photographic practice. Through this work, I aim to give complete freedom to my participant inside the studio space. Rather than directing or controlling gestures, I create an environment where the participant feels safe, comfortable, and free to be themselves. I am interested in capturing moments that emerge naturally when the participant lets go of self-consciousness and begins to express genuine emotions and movement.
This particular photograph comes from the story of a woman whose life has been deeply connected to dance. She began dancing at the age of four, and her passion led her across the country for various training opportunities. At fifteen, she was accepted into her dream school, the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, marking an important step in her artistic journey. Dance, for her, is not only performance but also a deeply personal and embodied form of expression.
Within the studio, I created a space where she could move beyond structure and expectation, allowing her to reconnect with her inner rhythm and physical memory. My role was not to interrupt or guide, but to quietly observe and respond through the camera, embracing the fluidity of her movement and presence.
Swecha explores the idea of personal freedom, vulnerability, and trust between the photographer and the participant. The project reflects my belief that photography can become a shared space where individuals feel liberated to express parts of themselves that often remain unseen. By giving freedom to the participant, the image shifts away from control and moves toward truth, emotion, and inner movement.
